Big V Round 3 Recap

A big weekend of Big V action has wrapped up with a mix of results for all 4 of our teams. Check out how our teams faired below!


A massive double header has seen our Division 1 Men go into the Easter break 3 and 1 picking up two great wins in round 3. Saturday night the men took care of business at home, a late charge by Coburg after being down more than 20, saw the Men have to hold on in the closing minutes to inch out a win by 4 points. Cohen Blythe led the way with 18/2/3 to go with 3 steals and 2 blocks. Max Kos and Lachie Headlam backed him up with 13 and 12 respectively. For Coburg James Weston and Damien O’Keefe found their range late combining for 48 points with 10 threes between them.

On Sunday the team headed to their first away game, a tough road-trip to Warrandyte. After a tough first half the Men were able to pull away, holding Warrandyte to just 18 points for the second half. Max Kos went for 16 points while Lewis Beks contributed 10. The team was dominant on the boards grabbing 67 on the game including 23 Offensive rebounds. For the Venom David Moore collected 8 points and 11 rebounds.

With a week off the Men look to recover and prepare for their next game where they take on Collingwood in Collingwood on the 10th of April.

A tough finish in the dying seconds of the Women’s game has seen the Stingrays lose by just 2 points to the Coburg Giants. A missed 3 on the buzzer after a clutch steal has seen our Women fall to 0-3. For the Rays, Shayna Poto led the way with 17/8, Meg Hanna backed her up with 13/8 of her own. Abby Loughhead also contributed with 9 points 11 rebounds and 6 steals. For Coburg Siobhan Mac Aodha had 16 points and Allanna Procak backed her up with 14 and 12.

The Women now have a week to regroup before their next game against RMIT in Bundoora.

Our Youth League 1 Men have had another tough loss going down by 16 to the Sherbrooke Suns in Sherbrooke. A hard second quarter saw the boys get outscored by 13 which in the end was too much to overcome in the second half. a 71-55 loss seeing our boys put up a season low in points in 2021. Wang Nyieth steadied the ship with 17/6 with 7 blocks, he was backed up by Jack Moran who had 13/7 with 2 blocks and steals of his own. For Sherbrooke, a balanced scoring load from Samual Carl, Bailey Ross and Nick Tarrant combined for 34 points.

Our men now face Collingwood after the Easter Break in Collingwood.


Our Youth League 1 Women have taken a hard loss in Sherbrooke going down 74-42. Alice Irving and Alannah Northam led the way with 13 and 11 points respectively. For Sherbrooke Rebecca Jones had 17 with Tamsyn Pentland and Naomi Smith both poured in 14 of their own.

Our Women now drop to 0-3 as well and head Bulleen after the Easter break to hopefully pick up their first win.
