Round 1 is in the books and Big V is well and truly back for 2022! With some ripping games to start the season, our teams have come away with a mix of results to kick off their respective campaigns. Check out how each of our teams went below!
Navexa Division 1 Men
An absolute nail-bitter of a game has seen our division 1 Men rally in the 4th Quarter to come back and steal a win from a hot shooting Coburg team. Entering the second half with an 11-point lead, the Stingrays let a poor shooting quarter get the better of them, with Coburg completing an 11 point turn around to tie the game going into the 4th quarter. A rough start saw the men fall behind as many as 7 points with just 3 and a half minutes to go. Cohen Blythe (Pivot City) put on a performance for the ages, scoring the final 10 points of the match to close out the game 67-64.

Navexa Division 2 Women
A massive third-quarter push has seen our division 2 women come away 13 point winners against the Blackburn Vikings. Picking up where they left off from 2021, the women have continued their winning ways, pouring in 26 points in the third quarter to break away and ultimately start their season 1 and 0. Jessica Scannell and Holly Robinson combined for 32 points and 17 rebounds, which ultimately proved to strong for the Vikings. Pulling in a whopping 59 rebounds and making 34 free throws, showed the dominance of the Women on both ends of the floor. Shoutout to head coach Jase Bannerman who claimed his 50th win as a Big V head coach!

Navexa Youth League 1 Men
Coming up against a tough Coburg side, our Youth League Boys in their first hit-out just weren’t good enough for the hot shooting Giants as they fell 60-92. A tough second quarter saw the Giants rally to a 30-10 finish to put them well in front at the half. While the Boys Battled back in the 2nd half, the lead was too much as Coburg ran away with the win. A bright spot was the coming-out party for Denver Terrill (YMCA), who in his first game put 15 points to lead the team. Jack Terrill also poured in 14/9/4 to go along with 3 steals.

Navexa Youth League 1 Women
A shaky first half has lead to our Youth League Women falling short against a tough Bulleen squad. Poor shooting in the first half saw our first trailing 23-7 entering the halftime break. It seemed as if the basket had a cap over it as nothing was dropping through for the girls. The second half opened up far more scoring opportunities however there was not enough left in the tanks as the girls ultimately fell 69-48. Vanessa Marsh showed her leadership skills as she poured in 23 points to go with 6 steals.
