Round 2 saw our teams take on their first double header of the season. We had some great results from the weekend as our Men are currently sitting outright first on top of the NBL1 South ladder.

Round 2 is in the books for our NBL1 Men as they managed to rout the Ringwood Hawks in our home opener at the Geelong Arena 110-59 in front of a sell out crowd! A 14 point first quarter lead set up an all around dominant game in which every player took the court and hit the scoreboard. Gabe Hadley (Lara) led the way with 27 points including a perfect 9/9 from two point range, while Isaac Turner backed him up with 26 of his own. Debutant Jay Posterino (Try Boys) led the way off the bench with 8 points to go with 1 rebound. Ringwood never looked closed to competing with the length and athleticism of the Supercats as a dominant 39 point last quarter capped off the 51 point win.

Sunday the team headed to Bendigo to take on the Braves in hopes of staying undefeated and secure their spot on top of the NBL1 South ladder. A battle in the first half saw our men going into the break down 46-48. However the Second half showed the defensive dominance holding the Braves to just 25 points for the half. Once again Gabe Handley led the way with 25 points to go with 7 rebounds and was backed up by his backcourt partner Isaac Turner who turned in a 23 point performance including 5 threes.

Our NBL1 Women have split their first double header weekend of the season coming away winners against the Ringwood Hawks Saturday, and falling just short against Bendigo on Sunday.

Saturday nights home opener for the HoopCity Supercats Women gave the home fans a nail-biting game that eventually saw our Women come away 9 point winners as the final buzzer sounded. A big opening quarter saw the women trailing 4 points 25-29 before a dominant second quarter defensive effort held the Hawks to just 4 points and allowed the Women to retake the lead and head into half-time up 13, 46-33.

The offence slowed in the second half with the third quarter ending with the Women extending their lead by just 4. The fourth quarter ended with the ring being covered as the Hawks outscored the Supercats 11-3, but it was not enough as the final buzzer sounded with the Women winning 63-54. Sara Blicavs led the way once again with 17 points and 12 rebounds which Aimie Rocci poured in 15 and Taylah Simmons 14 points and 12 boards.

Sunday also saw our Women head to Bendigo to take on a strong Braves outfit. A Back and forth game saw both teams exchange blows with the 3rd quarter ending with a 2 point lead to the Supercats. It was not to be however as the Braves were able to outrun the Supercats 24-17 and come away 5 point victors. Sara Blicavs once again led the way with 15 points and 13 rebounds and was backed up by Aimie Rocci’s 15 and Sarah Elsworthy’s (Wildcats) 13.
