CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN
CC EAGlES 40 – SURFCOASTERS 29
A close first half for the only game of Championship Women this week saw the score all locked up at 15. Opening up a lead in the second half behind Candice Byrt’s 19 points, the Eagles were able to pull away for an important win to keep their playoff hopes alive. For Surfcoast, Vanessa Rischitelli led the way with 11.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEN
CC EAGLES 92 – LARA GIANTS 79
An even-scoring attack from the Eagles has seen them collect a crucial win against the Lara Giants in round 8. A 3-point lead heading into quarter time was more than quadrupled as the Eagles got hot from the field, heading into the half up 13. A valiant effort from new recruit Seth Garcia wasn’t enough for the Giants however as the Eagles maintained their lead to run away 13 point winners. Mr Consistent, Liam McInerney was great once again with 18, while he was backed up by Jamieson Hultgren and Jacob Welch who both contributed 16.
TRY BOYS 100 – SHARKS 61
An explosive scoring game from the Bears has seen them run away 39-point winners over the Sharks in round 8. Doing their damage early, Try Boys were able to build a 13-point lead in the first half before a dominant 3rd quarter saw them outscore the Sharks 10-29. Seb Thomason was on fire scoring 28 points to lead the game, while Matt Johns was also great with 20. For the Sharks Lachlan Wilson was great with 24, however, didn’t have enough to get his team across the line.
YMCA 89 – SG KINGS 85
A nail-biting finish in this one has seen YMCA come from behind to steal an important win against the Kings last night. A 4-point lead at the half for Y turned to a 5-point deficit prior to the final 10 minutes of play. However, a strong scoring run late saw them outscore the Kings by 9 to claim a 4-point victory and keep their playoff hopes alive. Nathan Herbert was his usual self, leading the game with 26 points while Bailey Bruce backed him up well with 22. For the Kings, Will Macpherson continued his strong season with 25, while Kyle Meyer’s 15 was second-best on the night.
PIVOT CITY 97 – SURFCOASTERS 91
Suiting up just 5 players, Surfcoasters were nearly successful in knocking over a fully rostered Pivot team behind the hot shooting of Matthew Llyod. Hitting from deep all game, finishing with 6 threes and 24 points, the Surfcoasters guard was on fire all night. However, it was not enough on the night as the balanced scoring for Pivot was able to steady late to claim an important victory. Max Kos’ 21 and Jordan O’Leary’s 20 led the way for Pivot on the night.
WILDCATS 83 – VYTIS 61
A balanced scoring attack from the Wildcats has seen them collect another win on the season, knocking off Vytis in round 8. Connecting on 13 threes as a team, including 4 from DeMarcus Gatlin to complete his game leading 24-point haul, meant the Wildcats were just too much for Vytis through 40 minutes. Phil Renteria was also great with 19 points including 5 threes, while for Vytis Steve Wiasak and Kevin Brandariz both led the way with 15.
That wraps up round 8 action for the Winter Championship. Check back in next week to see how your clubs team faired in round 9!
