NBL1 round 7 recap

HOOPCITY NBL1 MEN

It was a tough night offensively for our NBL1 men who are feeling the absence of Superstar George Blagojevic on both ends of the floor. Despite an even first half in which the short-handed Supercats trailed by just 2, the defensive pressure of the long Ballarat Miners stifled the Geelong offence as they managed just 11 points to the Miners 26 in the third term. With a quarter to go, the damage was more than done as the 17 point deficit was too big for the home team to resurrect, ultimately falling by 15.

Shooting a lowly 32% from the field and nearly doubling the Miners in the turnover count, it clearly just wasn’t the Supercats night on Saturday. Despite the tough loss, Jack White continued to show his incredible value posting 15 points and 11 rebounds, while sharpshooter Gabe Hadley continued his strong push for an NBL spot in the offseason posting 17 points and 9 boards to go with 2 assists.

The team will look to regroup with the week off before heading to Diamond Valley to take on the Eagles. The men will be back at home on the 25th of June when they take on the North West Tasmania Thunder, tickets are available here.

HOOPCITY NBL1 WOMEN

It was an absolute showstopper at the Geelong Arena for our NBL1 women as they took another important step towards their finals campaign, knocking off Country rivals Ballarat in a 5 point thriller.

The insertion of Opals star Sara Blicavs back into the lineup was the difference in this one as she exploded for 33 points and 17 rebounds, helping lift her team to their 7th win, keeping them in the top 4. A 4 point buffer at quarter time quickly blew out to a 21 point lead at halftime, as the women outscored the Miners 26-9 as the halftime buzzer sounded. It was much the same in the 3rd as the Supercats extended their lead by 1 point before a 4th quarter blitz from the Miners nearly gave them a come from behind win, however, it was not to be as the Supercats held on to claim a 5-point win.

The Women will enjoy a week off before heading to Diamond Valley to face the Eagles away. They too will then return to the Arena on the 25th of June where they will look to get another crucial win against the Launceston Tornadoes, tickets are available here.
