BIG V round 14 recap

The final few rounds of Big V action are upon us, and as the race for finals position tightens, every game is more important than ever. Check out how our teams went in this weeks review below!

NAVEXA DIVISION 1 MEN

Geelong 99 – Collingwood 64, no stats available for the game as of yet.

NAVEXA DIVISION 2 WOMEN

Our Division 2 Women hit the highway for another away game this week as they faced the Wallan Panthers. A 4 pm Sunday game meant that all eyes were on the livestats as our Women looked to push for a finals spot. The first half saw the team in a 7 point hole due to some hot shooting from the Wallan backcourt. While the team fought valiantly, it wasn’t meant to be as the Panthers were able to take further control in the second half, coming away 16-point winners. Despite the loss, Carly Remmos had herself a game as she posted a 20-point 13 rebound double double in just 23 minutes.

With 3 rounds to go, the team still has a shot of making finals but will need some luck of the draw to get themselves there. The team will prepare to face Coburg away this coming Sunday.

NAVEXA YOUTH LEAGUE 1 MEN

Our Youth League Men have taken care of business at home as they trounced the Venom 94-74 on the Geelong Arena floor on Saturday night. It was all Geelong all the way throughout this game as 5 players managed double figures and all 8 players made their way onto the scoresheet. A dominant 2nd and 3rd quarter set up the 20-point win as the United boys outscored the Venom by 23 in the 20-minute span. The victory comes as some sweet revenge after falling to the Venom away only a few rounds ago. While the possibility of finals has fallen out of favour with the Men, they will look to finish strong as the final 2 rounds approach their conclusion. The team will look to grab another win against the strong Coburg Giants on Sunday.

YOUTH LEAUGE 1 WOMEN

Our Youth League 1 Women had a double header this weekend as they faced Warrandyte away and Pakenham at home. Saturday night saw a rough game offensively for the team as they stumbled in the second quarter allowing the Venom to capitalise and run away 10 points winners, 57-47. Casidhe Green led the way on the night with 9 and was backed up by Grace Spehar’s 5 and 11 rebounds.

On Sunday the team suited up against Pakenham, who they lost to in an agonisingly close game just a week prior. It was not to be however, as the Warriors were too strong running the Girls off their home court 70-98. Casidhe Green once again led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Grace Spehar was again second best putting up 15 and 8.

The girls will look to their second last game of the season as they face Collingwood away next Saturday.
