A 50 bomb, a 47-point haul and a 42-point torching are the headlines of this week’s Championship Men and Women. With some close games and ladder movement, it’s still anyone’s guess who will take out this year’s trophies!
CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN
YMCA 53 – CC EAGLES 49
YMCA has come away 4-point winners in a close battle with Christian College in our first game of the night. An even spread of scoring for both teams saw the game go down to the wire in the final quarter however it was the Y who was able to pull away for an important win. Aleks Connolly led the way with 14 for the Y, while for The Eagles Candice Bryt had 11.
SURFCOASTERS 61 – TRY BOYS 44
The Coasters have come away with an impressive 17-point win, locking down defensively in the second half to outscore the Bears 34-20, helping them pull off an important win. Leading by 3 at the half Annie Poon and the Coasters pulled away behind her 17 points to grab the win over the Bears. Shania Soutar led the game with 20 for Try Boys.
PIVOT CITY 93 – WILDCATS 54
Pivot City have continued their tear on the league downing the Wildcats by 39 behind Eve Braslis’ 47-point performance. Taking a 17-point lead into half-time, Eve and co. stepped on the gas outscoring the Cats 25 to 47. Emmy Nekrep was best for Wildcats with 16.

TRY BOYS 118 – VYTIS 72
Matt Johns’ has dominated Vytis last night on his way to a 50 bomb, including 8 threes on the night. A 5 point lead at quarter time was extended to 17 as the Bears put the clamps on, outscoring the Knights 28-12 to head into halftime. The second half was much the same as Try Boys put up 62 points to Vytis’ 37. Seb Thomason backed up Matt with 33 of his own, while Kevin Brandariz’s 19 was best for Vytis.
CC EAGLES 80 – SURFCOASTERS 70
A third-quarter to forget for the Surfcoasters has seen them go down by 10 points to the Eagles in round 12. A tight contest saw the scores all tied up at 36 heading into the half before a 30-point haul in the third created an 8-point buffer for the Eagles. A low-scoring 4th saw the Coasters unable to regain the lead eventually going down by 10. Jacob Welch led the game with 20 for the Eagles while Clancy Whelan’s 16 was best for Surfcoast.
WILDCATS 82 – SG KINGS 59
Wildcats continued their dominant streak in winter 2022 after taking care of business against the SG Kings last night. A close first half saw the Kings only down 6 at the half before an offensive onslaught in the 3rd created a 21-point lead for the Cats. Connecting on 16 threes for the game, the Cats’ offence was rolling ultimately delivering a 23-point win. Phil Renteria led all scorers with 25.
LARA 97 – SHARKS 76
Lara has picked up a much-needed win as they downed Sharks by 21 points in round 12. A 30-10 second quarter set up Lara to cruise to a comfortable win behind Jackson Bentley’s 42-point haul. Connecting on 19 3s as a team the Giants were on fire as the Sharks were helpless on D. For Sharks Ben Barrett was best with 15.
YMCA 68 – ROVERS 53
YMCA have come away with an impressive 15-point win against Rovers in the final game of round 12. An impressive team effort by the Y saw 4 guys hit double figures, leading them to a comfortable 3rd quarter outburst, setting them up for the win. Patrick Johnstone led the way with 15, while Tom Cushion’s 17 led the game.
