Our HoopCity NBL1 teams have collected important wins in round 12 as both teams look to secure their placing in the top four of the league. Check out how it all went down in this weekβs review.
HOOPCITY NBL1 WOMEN
Our NBL1 women have taken a dominant win over the lowly Dandenong Rangers on Saturday night to maintain their 4th place spot on the NBL1 South ladder. Coming into the game full of confidence the Women stamped their authority early against the 17th-placed Rangers leading by 15 at the first break. By the end of the half, the lead had ballooned out to 23 as Geelong looked in complete control. With a large lead secured, coach Matthew Paton looked to his bench spreading minutes evenly, giving some good experience to his team as they head into the final stretch of the season. Finishing up with a 27-point win and having all 10 players hit the scoreboard showed the dominance of the entire roster. Sara Blicavs led the way once again with 21 points and 9 rebounds white Eve Braslis came off the bench for an efficient 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The team will now look to this Saturday night when they will take on the Hobart Chargers. While the Chargers sit in 18th spot, Geelong will head into the game with the same mentality as they look to climb the ladder, sitting just 1 game back of a top 2 spot. HOOPCITY NBL1 MEN
Our NBL1 Men have staved off a hungry Rangers squad in a close battle on Saturday night. A high scoring affair, the points were flowing fast in the first quarter as the Rangers jumped out to a 29-24 lead as the first quarter came to a close. The Supercats quicky turned the deficit around in the 2nd, holding the Rangers to just 16 points as the hot shooting of the starers propelled Geelong to a 6-point half time lead.
A 3rd quarter explosion from Isaac Turner, in which he connected on 15 points, set the Supercats up nicely as they were up as much as 20 in the quarter. However a late fall in the dying seconds of the 3rd sent the Rangers to the FT line pushing the momentum towards a fast tracked comeback. Storming home in the final quarter the Rangers were hot from everywhere, closing the gap to just 4 points during the final minutes of the game. It was Gabe Hadley stepping up once again hitting a clutch 3 in transition (Check out socials later for the ridiculous shot) to break the hearts of the Rangers before the Supercats put the game to rest with some FTs.
The team will be full of confidence as they head into a blockbuster matchup against the 1st place Hobart Chargers. With everything to play for the Men will be in their bag to ensure a win.
