The end of the regular season is just 2 weeks away and with everything still to play for, it will be a massive end the what has been a thrilling season so far. Check out how our teams went this weekend below.
HOOPCITY NBL1 WOMEN
The Women’s game of the round was one not to be missed as our HoopCity Supercats took on the Mt Gambier Pioneers. In their last meeting, the team went down on an agonising buzzer-beater three from the corner to send us packing. Geelong started out strong in this one keeping pace with the Pioneers despite missing Sara Blicavs for the second consecutive week. With Eve Braslis, Taylah Simmons and Rebekah O’Donnell holding down the paint, the team was in command holding a 9-point advantage at the half. A small slump in the third saw the Pioneers creep back into the game cutting the deficit to 5 with some all-round team scoring. With 10 to play it was anyone’s game however the Supercats struggled offensively in the final 10 ultimately and with a late steal by Sarah Elsworthy, a game-winning shot was unable to drop for Rocci, sinking the Supercats by just 1, 72-73.
The team will look to turn around the tough loss quickly as they face the Nunawading Spectres on Friday night in a must-win game, before travelling to Keilor in what will hopefully be a 2 from 2 weekend in the winner’s column. Tickets to this Friday’s matchup up are available here.

HOOPCITY NBL1 MEN
The Men’s game of the round was just as hotly contested as the Women’s before it as your Geelong Supercats looked to take an important game against the Pioneers. Out of the gate quickly, Geelong was firing on all cylinders at the offensive end as they poured in 26 first-quarter points to create a 9-point lead. The Pioneers did their best to stop the bleeding as they cut the deficit by 3 at half-time, with Geelong taking a 46-40 lead. It was still anyone’s game through the third quarter as both teams hit the scoreboard often, however it was the Pioneers once again cutting the lead by 4 as the Supercats’ advantage dwindled to just 2 with 10 to play.
Despite the hot shooting from Gabe Hadley and Isaac Turner who combined for 56 points, it was the Pioneers who were able to come out on top by 6, 86-92, behind 32 points from Michael Harris who connected on 7 threes for the game at a ridiculous 54%.
The loss slides the team to 7th place with an 11 and 8 record. With a rivalry match for the ages on Friday against Nunawading, tickets available HERE, and then a road trip to Keilor on Saturday, the team will need to lock in and win both to secure a finals berth in 2022.
