THREE of the greatest SEABL/NBL1 era Geelong United Supercats have been honoured with life membership of Geelong United Basketball.
Guard trio Alex Duck, Jamie Medved and Nick Owusu were presented to the crowd between the women’s and men’s match-ups with Bendigo on Saturday night at Geelong Arena.
Duck, who was a key plank in the Supercats’ maiden SEABL championship in 2017, received her honour from Sharks president Paul Bugg.
As well as plying her trade for decade with the Supercats, Duck was a standout for Sharks in the Geelong United Community Competition.
The sharp-shooting Medved was presented his life membership plaque by long-time club supporter Keith Roderick, who may be the only person to have seen every long-range triple Medved made in Geelong Arena.
Fittingly, Nick Owusu was honoured by Nathan Herbert. Owusu’s creativity at the point opened the door for many an open Herbert shot in more than a decade on court together.
Owusu and Medved were part of an unrivalled era in Supercats’ history.
They played key roles on both the 2006 ABA National Championship and 2010 All-SEABL Championship rosters, while also adding three consecutive conference titles from 2005-07 to their impressive resumes.
