The Hoop City Geelong United Supercats will be without experienced forward Owen Odigie for the remainder of the NBL1 South season.
Scans have confirmed the 30-year-old suffered a ruptured quadriceps during Saturday night’s narrow loss to Kilsyth at Sports Centre.
Odigie, who has been with Geelong United since 2021, will undergo surgery today (Thursday).
“He went up for an uncontested dunk, and his leg blew out,” coach Grant Wallace told geelongunitedbasketball.com.au.
“We’re all devastated for him … it’s an ordinary situation.
“The Club is supporting him every way we can.”
In better news for Geelong United, veteran big man Ma’alo Hicks will return for the Supercats’ home opener against Bendigo Braves on Saturday, April 15.
He could be joined by talented forward George Blagojevic, who has ticked all the boxes in his return from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
“He trained really well last (Wednesday) night,” Wallace said.
