Geelong United has fallen just short of being crowned the best under-12 boys team in regional Victoria after finishing runner-up at the Junior Country Championships in Bendigo.
The Marty De Lange coached team went unbeaten through their pool games before seeing off Warrnambool in a quarter final and coming from six points down at half-time to beat Bendigo in a semi-final.
Geelong United was well placed to claim the title when it led 23-20 at half-time of the final.
However, Traralgon outscored United 27-18 to claim a 47-41 victory.
Boston Kingsley and Henry Wilson both scored nine points for Geelong United, with Marley Lynch contributing eight points.
The Geelong United Girls team had a mixed championships.
Wins over Portland, Bellarine and Southern Peninsula were the highlight for Brant Lowrey’s roster, earning them a quarter final berth.
However, their campaign was stopped by eventual runner-up Traralgon, 40-17.
