The Navexa Geelong United Youth League Women are eagerly awaiting a chance to test themselves against the competition’s only unbeaten team.
Jason Bannerman’s roster will venture to Eltham on Saturday night for a meeting with the unbeaten Wildcats.
United will head north with plenty of confidence after overcoming Sunbury last Sunday for its third win of the season.
“We will definitely have to bring our ‘A’ game against Eltham Saturday,” Coach Bannerman said.
“We’ll need to limit our turnovers and get our shooting percentage up.
“Our defensive effort will be the key, from a team perspective and individually. They have depth and solid scorers.
“These are the games we want to play. Easy games don’t build strength, confidence and character.”
The Navexa Geelong United Youth League Men will look to extend their five-game winning streak to six when it hosts Keysborough as part of a triple-header with the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats NBL1 women and men.
Defence has been a key for Luke Beard’s men, who have conceded the least average points per game in the Youth League One competition at just 69.
The Cougars, on the other hand, have given up 81 points as they’ve evenly split their opening six rounds with three wins and three losses.
Beard won’t take charge on Saturday afternoon, with NBL1 men’s assistant coach Paul Dawson to oversee United’s fortunes.
“A home game against Keysborough as a curtain raiser for the NBL1 program will be all the motivation required for our men to come out playing,” Beard said.
“We know if we come switched on and play four quarters of basketball that we are going to be highly competitive and hard to beat.”
