EMERGING Hoop City Geelong United Supercats big Georgia Cox has been given the chance of a lifetime after being offered a full scholarship to a US College.
Cox, who joined United from Ballarat ahead of the 2023 season, will join Eastern Illinois University (EIU) later this year.
The 190cm 18-year-old revealed her Spain-based agent helped open some doors in the US.
“He’s been helping me out … and he knows of the coach (of Eastern Illinois),
“He sent out my information, and they got back to us, and they were interested in me, and he communicated with me, and it took off from there.”

A Vic Country representative, Cox is excited by the chance to head across the Pacific for the next four years.
“I started playing basketball when I was five years old; it’s always been my No.1 sport,” she said.
“From a very young age, I was like, “This is what I really want to do”.
“I’ve always wanted to aim the highest, and I really want to get better at it, so college is what I really want to do with my basketball.
“I think it will be a great opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to going over there and developing not only my basketball but personally and academically as well.
Cox has taken to the floor at the NBL1 level for Geelong United on six occasions in 2023, scoring on four occasions.
At Big V Youth League level, Cox has made five appearances, averaging 13.2 points on 40 per cent shooting andΒ 4.6 rebounds per game.
Her season-high 19 points came in the win over Sunbury at Geelong Arena on April 22.

“Georgia has great length and can step out and shoot the three. She can finish with both hands and is very skilled for her size.
“We are really hopeful that she can have a great impact on our program.”
Eastern Illinois University competes in the Ohio Valley Conference, where it was beaten in the semi-finals of this year’s conference tournament by eventual champion Tennessee Tech.
