Including Chantel Horvat and Agnieszka Skobel in the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats Women’s roster couldn’t have been better timed ahead of four games in eight days.
2017 championship-winner Horvat and Polish National Team member Skobel will provide a handy injection of talent into Matthew Paton’s roster ahead of this weekend’s home-road double-header against Mt Gambier and Diamond Valley.
The matchups with the Pioneers and Eagles come ahead of the Tasmania road double next weekend against Hobart and Launceston.
NBL1 MEN: UNITED EMBRACES CHALLENGE
Mt Gambier is the first cab off the rank for Geelong United and has compiled a handy 5-1 record through the opening quarter of the season.
βThe Pioneers are always a tough opponent β well coached, well drilled and a complete outfit,” Coach Paton said.
“Not unlike us, they have had some personnel unavailable over the first few weeks of the season, but they have had players step up and play their part to continue their strong form.
“We will need to be at our best and share the load as a team to ensure we are in the contest down the stretch.β
Miela Goodchild has been a standout for Mt Gambier.
She sits equal third in scoring in the NBL1 South competition with an average of 26 points per game.
The 3-3 Diamond Valley will also be no pushover, but, like the Supercats, will be coming off a game on Saturday night when they host Ballarat.
“Both us and the Eagles are sitting around the middle of the ladder, so it is an important contest for both teams to stake their claim for a position in the top eight,” Paton said.
Saturday night’s matchup with Mt Gambier is part of Lifeline Round, with $1 from every ticket sold supporting Lifeline.
$1 from every drink sold at the Gage Road Brewery Bar in the upstairs function room will also be donated to Lifeline.
