GABE Hadley hopes his impressive start to the 2023 NBL1 South season is turning enough heads to earn a spot on an NBL roster for the 2023-24 season.
The 25-year-old guard, who spent the previous NBL season as a development player with the Cairns Taipans, is leading the conference in scoring through the opening six rounds at 25.4 points per game, up from 22 points per outing last year.
Hadley has also been a creative force through the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats’ five-game winning streak, averaging four assists per game, including six against the previously unbeaten Mt Gambier and five apiece in road meetings with Diamond Valley and Hobart.
“I’ve got some interest coming through,” Hadley toldΒ geelongunitedbasketball.com.au.
“I’ve just got to keep putting good performances in every week, keep connecting with coaches, and see what I can do.
“Hopefully, I can get that contract.”
Hadley said he returned from Cairns, where he made one appearance with the Taipans, with a defensive focus.
“I think I’ve done a pretty good job this year of doing that,” he said.
“I’m also trying to distribute the ball a bit more.”
After starting 0-4, Geelong United’s win over North West Tasmania to round out a successful weekend in Tasmania has it sitting in seventh place.
However, to stay there as the season reaches its midpoint, United must overcome fifth-placed Nunawading at Geelong Arena on Saturday.
“It’s a very close competition,” Hadley said. “There’s a lot of great teams and a lot of great players.
“You’ve got to bring it every weekend; there are no weekends off.
“We’ve gone 5-0, but we’ve got to switch our minds to Nunawading now and try and get another this weekend.”
