Spectres loom large for United

One of the NBL1 South’s tallest rosters comes to town when the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats host Nunawading at Geelong Arena on Saturday night.

The fifth-placed Spectres (6-3) features five players 200cm or taller, which will have Geelong United coach Grant Wallace keen to push the ball on offence.

“It’s a huge game ahead for us at home this weekend against an in-form Nunawading,” Coach Wallace said.

“The momentum built over the past few weeks will mean very little if we do not keep improving and paying attention to detail.

“We really need the support of our home crowd to be that sixth man and make the venue as uncomfortable as we can for our guests.”

NBL1 WOMEN | CHALLENGES KEEP COMING FOR UNITED

Big man Will Carius leads Nunawading’s scoring at 21.1 points per game on 48 per cent shooting, with Jalen Gibbs next best at 18.8.

Kingsley Box (11.8ppg) and Josh Tomasi (10.1ppg) are also regular contributors on the scoreboard for the Spectres.

Captain Jack Gandolfo is the playmaker for Nunawading, averaging 4.9 assists per game.

However, the Spectres will have to concern themselves with stopping any number of Geelong United guns, including league-leading scorer Gabe Hadley.

Hadley is coming off an impressive weekend in Tasmania, where he dropped 22 points against Hobart and 32 in the absence of George Blagojevic in the win over North West Tasmania.
