Geelong United Basketball referee Joel Lay’s list of achievements with a whistle is continuing to grow after officiating his 100th Big V.
Lay, whose refereeing journey started at Try Boys alongside his twin brother Mitch in 2011, brought up the milestone when he controlled the Men’s Championship match between Bellarine and Wyndham on the weekend.
The 24-year-old made his Big V debut in 2018 and officiated the Division 2 Women’s grand final series, and in 2019, he was part of the team that controlled the Youth League 1 Men’s decider between Geelong and Ballarat.
In 2022, he oversaw the Youth League Championship Men’s finals before acting as a referee coach for the remainder of the finals series.
