Geelong United Basketball’s support of Dry July will extend into a third year in 2023, with several Hoop City Geelong United Supercats NBL1 players taking part this year.
Jay Posterino, Chantel Horvat and Gabe Hadley were part of the local launch of ‘Billy’s Frothy Fund’, which is aiming to claim the title of the number-one fundraising team in Australia for the third consecutive year.
Across 2021-22, the team – led by Geelong Cats great Billy Brownless – has raised $180,000 for Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre.
“It’s not often I want to have something in common with Hawthorn, but a three-peat, all in the name of cancer, would be nice,” Brownless said.
“I am so grateful for all the support from the Frothy Fund team members in the past two years and am hoping for record participants and record funds raised in 2023.
“Now is the perfect time to jump on the bandwagon.”
NBL1 South leading scorer Hadley is part of the hoopcityballers group that will be putting shots up at Hoop City across June and July to raise funds.
“A month off alcohol has great health benefits like sleeping better, having more energy and of course, no hangovers. Add to that the rising cost of living, it can actually help you save a bit of coin,” Brownless added.
“But, it doesn’t have to be 100 per cent sobriety; if you have a special occasion on, you can buy a ‘Golden Ticket’, so that’s no excuse not to take part.
“Just think, if I am doing it for a third time, it can’t be that bad.
