The reigning national champion and a fellow top-eight aspirant await the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats when they cross Bass Strait for Round 6 of the NBL1 South season.
Riding a three-game winning streak after opening their 2023 campaign with four consecutive losses, the Supercats Apple Isle adventure presents an opportunity to get ahead of the ledger for the first time this year.
However, Hobart tomorrow (Friday) night and North West Tasmania on Saturday night will be no pushovers, with United taking to the floor four times in eight days.
The Chargers sit sixth on the ladder with a 5-3 record, while the Thunder’s in a group of teams battling for a spot in the lower half of the eight despite sitting 15th at 3-5.
“We have definitely turned the corner on a slow start, but you can never be content as this league continues to challenge you,” coach Grant Wallace said.
“The Tasmanian road trip is one of the toughest schedules on the fixture, and we cannot wait to test ourselves and continue to improve our record.
“We will need to continue to improve our defensive and offensive schemes to get our Win/Loss ratio back into the positive after the weekend.”
NBL1 WOMEN – A CHANCE TO CONSOLIDATE
United duo Gabe Hadley and George Blagojevic bookend the top 10 scorers in the competition, with Hadley leading the way with 25.0 points per game on an impressive 50 per cent shooting.
Blagojevic, who is only six games back after a knee reconstruction, is 10th with 22.17 points at 44.1 per cent from the field.
With help from captain DeMarcus Gatlin, Nick Velasquez, Liam Herbert and Ma’alo Hicks, that duo will need to provide the bulk of the scoring for United to return home in front of the ledger.
