United support for Lifeline

Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is proud to announce it raised $10,000 as part of Lifeline Round.

CEO Mark Neeld was on hand to present a cheque to Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria Regional General Manager Jason Doherty on Monday afternoon.

“The donation from GUB will help us train and support new crisis support volunteers in our Geelong centre,” Mr Doherty said.

“Each crisis support worker costs Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria $3500 per volunteer to train, mentor, call coach and support through to them answering calls on our national 13 11 14 phone line.

“This support will help us answer an extra 1,500 calls over the next 12 months.

“The support from GUB helps Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria drive our work of being ‘in community, with community, and for community’.

“We are grateful that GUB is a community-minded and trusted organisation in our region and has the reach to so many people through their programs and initiatives.”

UNITED IN GOING DRY FOR JULY

GUB raised funds between May 1-7 in various ways, including giving Community Competition participants the option of making a $1 donation when purchasing their game ticket.

Money was also raised from game night ticket sales and beverages purchased at the Lifeline Round NBL1 South game night against Mt Gambier on May 6

“Geelong United Basketball is pleased to donate to Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria,” Mr Neeld said.

“GUB understands we can play a role in supporting our community through the sport of basketball.

“We are grateful for the support we received from participants in our Community Competitions.

“We also thank the big crowd that turned out for our Lifeline Round NBL1 South game night against Mt Gambier, which helped push the total to $10,000.”
