Women’s Championship Wrap | Round 4

A Sarah Elsworthy-inspired Wildcats has claimed its first win of the Geelong United Basketball Women’s Championship season.

The Geelong United Supercats co-captain exploded for 29 points as Wildcats had the better of Try Boys, 81-40, at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.

Elsworthy was well supported by 17 points from Jaimee Crombie, with Jasmine King contributing 15.

Kayla Blazko again paced the Bears’ scoring, finishing with 15 points.

A 19-9 second quarter proved the difference as YMCA overcame Christian College Eagles, 57-52, at AWA.

Kim Hammond (15 points), Taylah Richards (14) and Eliza Hannagan (14) made regular contributions as Y stayed within touch of unbeaten Sharks and Pivot City.

Veteran duo Candice Byrt (18 points) and Olivia Cameron (14) did all they could to get the Eagles over the line.

Eve Braslis’ stunning run of form continued as Pivot City proved too experienced for a youthful Surfcoasters.

Braslis poured in 37 points in a 97-67 victory at Geelong Arena.

Vanessa Marsh was also impressive with 19 points, while Miley Dawkins and Ella Tofaeono contributed 14.

Annie Poon was the standout for Surfcoasters with 19 points. Eloise Moran (15 points) and Amelia Jovic (10) also battled hard.
