Chance to consolidate for Youth League Men

A chance to further consolidate its spot inside the top six and stay in touch with the top two presents itself for the Navexa Geelong United Youth League Men on Sunday.

Luke Beard’s squad, which sits fourth with a 9-4 win-loss record, will travel to Bulleen on Sunday looking to extend its winning streak to three and continue to keep pressure on second-placed Sherbrooke (10-3).

“We are focussed on ensuring we come mentally locked in. Our improvement in the second half of the season will be measured by the consistency of our performance,” Beard said.

“There has been great energy at training this week, and I truly believe that in every game, the players are trusting each other and our structures more.”

For the Navexa Geelong United Youth League Women, a win over McKinnon (4th 8-4) or Bulleen (3rd 10-3) in this weekend’s home-road double is required to stay in touch with the top six.

United, which hosts the Cougars at 3pm Saturday as part of a triple-header with the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats NBL1 South teams, sits 10th with a 4-9 win-loss record but is just one game behind sixth-placed Coburg.

Jason Bannerman’s roster lost to McKinnon in Round 4 by 15 points and to Bulleen by 37 points in Round 2 at Geelong Arena.

“We need consistency at both ends of the floor,” he said.
“Accountability defensively will play a huge role in our ability to be competitive. If we can execute as a team, we can push all that we come up against.
“We must play the full four quarters.”

College-bound big Georgia Cox will be available on Saturday.
