Men’s Championship Wrap | Round 7

A standout performance from young gun Bailey Bruce has helped YMCA overcome Christian College Eagles and consolidate second spot on the Geelong United Basketball Men’s Winter Championship ladder.

Bruce dropped 30 points as Y claimed a 90-83 decision at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.

Liam Herbert was also a constant offensive threat with 22 points, with veteran shooter Nathan Herbert contributing 16 points.

Jamieson Hultgren and Liam McInerney finished with 19 points apiece for the Eagles, who had five players in double figures.

Lara Giants climbed to third on the ladder with a 70-65 victory over Wildcats at AWA.

The Giants knocked down 11 threes in their tally, with Joel McFall leading the scoring with 19 points.

Jack Burnett and Seth Garcia contributed 16 points apiece.

Cory Jones paced Wildcats scoring with 18 points, with Nick Owusu next best with 17.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP | ROUND 7

Max Zalakos and Max Kos did the majority of the damage as Pivot City overcame an early challenge from Vytis at AWA.

Zalakos poured in 31 points, and Kos dropped 30 in the 93-70 victory, which kept Pivot unbeaten.

Andy Przybylkiewicz was best for the Knights with 20 points, while Romas Liebich (18) and James Osborne (15) were also solid contributors.

A 26-17 second quarter proved handy for Try Boys as it held off Tigers at Geelong Arena.

The Bears ran out 84-70 winners, with Seb Thomason best with 24 points.

Nathan Gronbeck (18 points) and Aaron Prendergast (16) ensured Try Boys didn’t lack for scoring options.

Oscar Leavold (19 points) and Josh Hasell (18) kept Tigers in the contest.

Surfcoasters has maintained touch with the top four with an impressive 99-59 victory over South Geelong Kings at AWA.

After opening up a 10-point lead at quarter time, Surfcoasters put the contest out of the reach of the Kings with a 31-13 second period.

Jack Moran and Clancy Whelan finished with 25 points apiece for the winners.

Peter Elliot (16 points) and Will Macpherson (14) battled hard for the Kings.

Sharks had the bye.
