Men’s Championship Wrap | Round 8

Pivot City remains the team to beat in Geelong United Basketball Men’s Winter Championship after overcoming a determined Try Boys by 22 points at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium on Tuesday night.

Pivot made it eight-straight wins to start the season with a 103-81 victory.

Ethan Blythe paced Pivot’s scoring with 22 points, with Tyler Erard (18 points) and Max Zalakos (18) also impressive.

Seb Thomason was the Bears’ best with 26 points, with Nathan Gronbeck’s solid season continuing as he contributed 19 points.

Five players scored in double figures as YMCA proved too strong for Tigers, 112-82, at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.

Guard duo Liam Herbert (30 points) and Bailey Bruce (28) combined for 58 points, with solid support coming from David Overgaauw (18 points), Ash Cannan (16) and Nathan Herbert (14).

Lachie van der Klooster was best with 21 points for Tigers, with Evan Juros (19 points) and Ethan Hickey (15) also contributing.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WRAP | ROUND 8

An even team performance has helped Wildcats overcome a Lachie Wilson-inspired Sharks in Geelong United Basketball Men’s Winter Championship action at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium on Tuesday night.

Phil Renteria, Jeremy Diamond and Tom Henkel each scored 17 points as Wildcats claimed a narrow 73-68 victory.

Scores were level at three-quarter time, with Wildcats outscoring Sharks 21-16 in the final period.

Wilson almost carried Sharks to victory on the back of his game-high 34 points.

An impressive three-point shooting display has propelled Lara Giants to an 87-59 victory over South Geelong Kings at Geelong Arena.

The Giants knocked down 11 shots from outside, led by five makes in Seth Garcia’s 17 points.

However, Jackson Bentley (21 points) and Joel McFall (20) paced Lara’s scoring, with the Giants now sitting third on the ladder.

Will Macpherson (14 points) and Peter Elliott (13) battled hard for the Kings.

Thirty-eight points from Yusuf Qaafow helped Vytis to a high-scoring 100-93 victory over Surfcoasters.

Qaafow knocked down eight three-pointers in his game-high haul.

At the other end of the floor, Josh Chery hit six threes in his 37 points for the Coasters.

CC Eagles had the bye.
