The success of last Saturday night’s Hoop City Geelong United Supercats NBL1 Read the Play game night will have a positive flow-on effect for Geelong United Basketball.
The money raised from ticket sales from the Knox Raiders matchups will facilitate the Read the Play program for our under-16, under-18 and under-20 Victorian Junior Basketball League teams on July 2.
Read the Play is a program that aims to build confidence in young people to seek support for mental health.
It has been successfully delivered to local Australian Rules football and netball clubs across the Geelong region over the past 16 years.
Geelong United Basketball has been afforded the opportunity of being the first sporting body outside of Australian Rules football and netball to help spread the Read the Play message.
“We are proud to partner with Read the Play and pleased to be in the position to provide this important program to our under-16, under-18 and under-20 players,” GUB CEO Mark Neeld.
“The importance of shining a light on youth mental health awareness shouldn’t be underestimated.
“We are confident the Read the Play program will be of enormous benefit to the players involved, and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with General Manager Michelle Gerdtz and her team.”
Read the Play is one of three Geelong United Basketball Community Partners, along with Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria and the Barwon Health Foundation.
