Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship | Round 12 Wrap

The dynamic duo of Georgia Varley and Cortney Hollowood have combined for 65 points as Sharks maintained top spot on the RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship ladder with an 18-point win over third-placed Wildcats.

Varley dropped 38 points, and Hollowood contributed 27, with the duo making the most of the creativity of veteran guard Alex Duck in the 82-65 victory at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.

Charlotte Armstrong was impressive for Wildcats as she scored 21 points, while Tess Norman added 14 points.

A Kim Hammond-inspired YMCA has gone a long way to securing a finals berth after overcoming Surfcoasters by 27 points.

Hammond proved too hard to handle on the inside, scoring 33 points in the 77-50 victory.

Youngster Harmony Parker (15 points) and Sally Houlihan (10 points) were a quality support cast to Hammond’s starring role.

Amelia Jovic led the Surfcoasters scoring with 18 points, with Brooke Egan finishing with ten points.

MEN’S WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP WRAP | ROUND 12

Ella Tofaeono proved the difference asΒ Pivot CityΒ maintained top spot with a 36-point effort in a 77-57 win overΒ Try Boys.

Tofaeono, who will be part of the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats women’s NBL1 South championship quest, showed her range from outside by knocking down seven three-pointers.

Evie Perez and Paris Kevric provided able support in scoring 14 points apiece.

Shania Soutar’s impressive season continued for the Bears. She paced their scoring with 29 points, which included five three-point makes.

Jacinta Maloney was next best with 15 points.

CC Eagles had the bye.
