Matthew Paton is well aware the carrot of a top-four finish is dangling in front of the faces of the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats women heading into the final round of the regular season.
However, the experienced coach knows looking beyond Saturday night’s meeting with Keilor (16th 6-14) is fraught with danger.
While Geelong United overcame the Thunder 77-66 when the two teams met in Round 9, they had to overcome an impressive third-quarter surge that cut a 22-point Supercats lead at half-time to just four points ten minutes later.
“They’re a dangerous team with nothing to lose,” Paton said.
“A couple of results didn’t go our way in regards to the top four last week.
“But, at the end of the day, we should be looking at what we can control.
“It will settle out wherever it does. We’ve locked in a home final, and that’s fantastic.
“If it’s top-four, then that’s the cherry on top.”
Geelong United should welcome back Ella Tofaeono after she sat out last Saturday’s win over the Ballarat Miners.
Like the Supercats, the Falcons are coming off a Saturday night match. They host Mt Gambier in another battle crucial to the top four.
