Statement from Geelong United Basketball CEO Mark Neeld, re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
Geelong United Basketball understands the Victorian Government’s decision to withdraw as host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. While we know sports fans across Victoria will be disappointed to miss out on a world-class event in their backyard, Geelong United Basketball welcomes the Victoria Government’s confirmation that sporting infrastructure projects planned as part of the Games will proceed, as well as the proposed investment in social housing in regional Victoria. We look forward to working alongside the Victorian Government as they deliver an essential piece of infrastructure for the sport of basketball in the region.
