Wildcats have jumped to third on the RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Men’s Winter Championship ladder after overcoming YMCA by 14 points at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium on Tuesday.
In an even team performance, Wildcats were best served by 18 points from Tom Henkel and 16 from Jeremy Diamond.
Geelong United Supercats duo Ma’alo Hicks (15 points) and DeMarcus Gatlin (12) provided good scoring depth for Wildcats, who were again without Nick Owusu.
Missing the likes of rising star Bailey Bruce, guard Liam Herbert, and veteran big Ash Cannan, Y’s leading scorer was Vic Country under-16 representative Hugh Buckby with 21 points.
Veteran shooter Nathan Herbert (18 points) and Jack Terrill (12) were also busy.
Pivot City has taken another step towards securing the regular season championship after seeing off a challenge from Surfcoasters to claim a 12th consecutive win.
The trio of Cohen Blythe (33 points), competition leading scorer Max Kos (25) and Marach Marach (21) did the bulk of scoring for Pivot in the 105-90 win at AWA.
Josh Chery paced the ‘Coasters scoring with 27 points, while Ben Rigby backed up his 39-point effort last week with 24.

Lara Giants have remained in second spot but not before being pushed by winless Tigers at Geelong Arena.
The Giants escaped with an 84-78 win on the back of another outstanding shooting display from Jackson Bentley.
After producing a season-high 48 points last week, Bentley knocked down eight three-pointers on his way to 38 points.
Big man Jack Burnett (16 points) and fellow experienced duo Michael Hammond (11) and Joel McFall (11) also did their bit to get the Giants home.
Josh Hasell was best on the scoresheet for Tigers in scoring 15 points, with Evan Juros (13) and Lachie van der Klooster (12) also busy.
Christian College Eagles jumped Sharks in the opening quarter and never looked back in recording a 36-point win at AWA.
The Eagles held a 20-7 advantage at quarter time and outscored Sharks in every quarter for the remainder of the contest to post a 91-55 victory that has them just one point outside the top four.
Liam McInerney’s interior presence proved telling as he finished with 30 points for the Eagles, with Jamieson Hultgren adding 18 points to their tally.
Youngster Malik Davis battled hard with 16 points for Sharks.
Try Boys had to overcome a half-time deficit before beating South Geelong Kings by 27 points at AWA.
Trailing by three points at the main break, the Bears took control of the contest with a 34-13 third quarter on their way to a 93-66 result that has them three points outside the top four.
Seb Thomason’s consistent season continued for Try Boys as he led all scorers for the night with 23, with Nathan Gronbeck adding 21 and Jack McGough 15.
Will McPherson warmed up for Geelong United’s Youth League final with 19 points for the Kings, while Peter Elliott and Tom Slee added 15 points.
