Sharks have pulled away late to move a game clear on top of the RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship ladder following a 65-57 victory over fellow championship contender Pivot City at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium on Tuesday night.
Holding a three-point advantage at three-quarter time, Sharks outscored an Eve Braslis-less Pivot 18-13 in the final period.
League leader Georgia Varley was again the standout on the scoresheet, finishing with 27 points, with Cortney Hollowood contributing 16.
Ella Tofaeono and Vanessa Marsh, fresh from her final Youth League appearance for Geelong United, finished with 17 points apiece for Pivot. Youngster Miley Dawkins added 12 points.

The slim finals hopes of CC Eagles remain alive after seeing off a challenge from winless Surfcoasters at AWA.
With scores tied at 47 apiece at three-quarter time, some impressive outside shooting from Alivia Osborne in the final period held the Eagles to a 66-60 victory.
Osborne was the perfect foil for veteran duo Candice Byrt (20 points) and Becky Linke (19).
Amelia Jovic led the ‘Coasters scoring with 15 points, with Neish Brooks (12), Maya Malone (11) and Elosie Moran (11) almost helping the youngsters to their first win of the season.
Five players scored in double figures as YMCA maintained its six-point buffer inside the top four following a comfortable 78-36 result against Try Boys at Geelong Arena.
Nineteen points from Taylah Richards and 16 from Kim Hammond were best for Y. Molly Kent (14), Harmony Parker (11), and Abby Loughead (10) also kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Shania Soutar was again the Bears’ best with nine points.
