Iceland-bound Eve Braslis has committed to the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats for the next two NBL1 seasons.
23-year-old Braslis is coming off an impressive 2023 campaign in which she posted 17.7 points on 58.1 per cent shooting, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
Braslis is excited about the prospect of an NBL1 South championship push.
“I really enjoyed this last season, and I love being able to play in front of our home crowd – it’s the best crowd in the NBL1 South,” Braslis.
“I love the small town feel, in that I see people on a Tuesday night at Community level, or I see them when they come into work.
“I’m really forward to what season 2024 holds for Geelong United.”
Braslis, who was a standout in the GUB Community Competition with Pivot City this year, will rejoin Geelong United following a European winter in Iceland.
The forward has signed with Grindavik in the Icelandic Premier League.
“I was looking for somewhere to play in the offseason, and I’ve always wanted to play in Europe,” Braslis, who holds dual Australian-Latvian citizenship, said.
“I’m really looking forward to living in a new country and being able to explore the world while continuing my basketball career.
“The chance to develop my game with players and coaches with different backgrounds and experiences really excites me.”
Geelong United Basketball General Manager of Pathways Megan Moody said the club was keen to re-sign Braslis as it looks to build on this year’s preliminary final.
“Eve had a wonderful 2023 season to become an integral part of the Geelong United roster,” Moody said.
“We wish her all the best for her experience in Iceland and look forward to seeing her in a navy blue singlet for the next two years.”
Braslis joins Sarah Elsworthy as a confirmed signing for 2024, with the co-captain already committed after signing a two-year deal before the 2023 season.
