An impressive display of outside shooting from Sarah Elsworthy has catapulted Wildcats into the RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship grand final.
Geelong United’s NBL1 co-captain was a class above as she poured in 30 points on the back of seven three-pointers in the ‘Cats 84-51 victory over Sharks at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.
Elsworthy had an adequate support cast as Wildcats booked a meeting with Pivot City at Geelong Arena next Tuesday night.
Piper Copeland contributed 12 points, Chantelle Hall and Ash Rozenfeld 11, and Jamie Crombie and Ella Wolfenden nine apiece.
Wildcats took control of the contest in the second quarter when it held Sharks to just three points while adding 11 themselves to turn a three-point lead at the first break into an 11-point buffer at halftime.
A 30-12 third quarter ensured the ‘Cats would progress to next week’s decider.
Without star playmaker Alex Duck, Sharks were led on the scoresheet by Georgia Varley’s 25 points.
Backcourt partner Cortney Hollowood was next best with 12 points, with Emily Prior, Ebony Coppock and Ash Feehan finishing with four.
