Geelong United NBL1 guard Jess Scannell is in line to represent her native Ireland after being named in a preliminary squad for next month’s EuroBasket 2025 qualifier against France.
The veteran shooter last featured in an Irish squad in 2009 and played under head coach James Weldon in Ireland’s under-18 team in 2007.
Scannell, recognised with Geelong United’s Players’ Player Award this year, averaged 6.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in helping the team to the South Conference preliminary final.
She made an equal team-high 31 three-pointers for the season from 23 appearances, which included eight starts.
“Having Jessica back from Australia with her experience, versatility, and overall qualities is also a boost to the team,” Coach Weldon told Basketball Ireland.
We look forward to a special atmosphere in Tallaght as always for these games and putting on a performance against France, which is ranked 7th in the FIBA World Rankings, for all our supporters.”
A native of County Cork, Scannell has made 42 appearances for Geelong United since joining the club ahead of the 2022 season.
