Geelong United is excited to welcome our newest addition to the NBL1 Menβs roster, Jay Rantall.
Rantall returns to basketball after being selected at pick number 40 in the 2019 AFL draft by the Collingwood Football Club. He would go on to play five senior games before being delisted by the club at the end of the 2021 season.
A true multi sport athlete, Jay achieved high levels of success through basketball in his teenage years, representing Australia in the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship and the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup alongside Geelong United teammate, Liam Herbert.
The 22 year old Warrnambool native is itching to get back on the court after his extended break from high level basketball – “Iβm excited to be back playing basketball again after a period of time away from the game, and the boys and coaches have been so great and so welcoming. I’m Looking forward to what hopefully will be a successful season for the team and the organisation.”
Geelong United Men’s Head Coach, Grant Wallace shares Jay’s excitement, eager to see what he brings to the team’s rotation – “We’re really excited to have Jay sign on and return to his basketball journey. As a past national junior player, Jay has an elite understanding of the game.Β His quickness at both ends of the floor provide us with another valuable tool in our backcourt arsenal. Pairing that speed with an unselfish team first mentality, skill and ability to shoot the basketball at a high clip adds another level to our already deep roster.Β We cannot wait to see him playing in 2024.”
