Sarah Elsworthy Geelong United Basketball WNBL

And it was officially announced to our live crowd at Saturday night’s NBL1 game that Sarah Elsworthy is the newest signing to our WNBL squad.

“Getting my second chance in the WNBL was something I thought I’d never get,” Sarah said. “Playing in the first Geelong United WNBL team in a community I really care about, it’s such a great opportunity.”

NBL1 UPDATE:

Geelong United NBL1 Scores

Now that was a GREAT weekend – A perfect 4 from 4!

We kicked off the weekend with a home double header for First Nations Round, which saw the Women get up by 19 points, while the men battled out a hard fought contest to take the win in the dying seconds by two points.

On Sunday, the Women’s squad were dominant once again led by a 40 point haul from Shaneice Swain, walking away with a 33 point win, while the men were locked in another nail biter, eventually coming away with the 1 point W.

BIG V YOUTH LEAGUE UPDATE:

Geelong United Big V Results

A 1 from 4 weekend for our Big V Youth League sides, with the Men’s squad getting our one win over McKinnon by 21 points.

Both teams are back in action this weekend with an away double header on Saturday, followed by a home double header on Sunday – Keep an eye on our Geelong United Basketball socials for all the details.

Geelong United Basketball’s Step Above Skills Sessions are all about stepping up your game and learning the skills that will help you get ahead of the pack.

Delivered by Simon Nicholson (GUB Coach & Athlete Development Manager), these sessions are for VJBL athletes and others wanting to improve their skills by attending one or both sessions. Each session will be focused on specific skills based development that will help all athletes better their game.

Five more sessions are left for the year, with the next coming up on Tuesday, July 2nd: “The 10 Best Drills When You Have Less Than 10 Players,” presented by NBL1 Women’s Head Coach, Jamie Petty.

Registrations will be opening later this week, so keep an eye on our socials for the chance to secure your spot.

VJBL LASERQUEST UNITED TEAMS OF THE WEEK:

It was another exciting night of VJBL action last Friday.

The Laserquest United Teams Of The Week honours this week though go to the U14G4 team, who fell 1 point short against Macedon Ranges but fought hard the whole way, and the U12B2 squad, who walked away 4 point winners over Eltham.

Congratulations all!


2024 GUB TOURNAMENT – KORR KORR NGITJI:

Korr Korr Ngitji Geelong United Basketball Tournament

GUB will once again be holding a celebration of our sport by Coming Together (Waddawurrung: Korr Korr Ngitji) at a festival of basketball!

Now in its third year, the GUB Tournament will be held this coming November 2nd-3rd, across the six venues that host Geelong United’s community games each week.

Over the course of the weekend, teams will play a minimum of four games against other VJBL clubs, country associations and community teams from across the nation.

In addition to the tournament, GUB will also be holding several development clinics and courses directed at community and club coaching, score table officials, and referees.
