Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is pleased to announce the next player signing for our inaugural WNBL season, Hannah Hank.
The Clemson University alum, who finished her college run with both 500+ points and rebounds for the side, will join Geelong United fresh off a stint with the Brisbane Capitals in the NBL1 North competition.
As for joining Geelong United in it’s maiden WNBL season, Hannah is excited for the opportunity – “It’s definitely a really special feeling to be part of the inaugural team,” she said. “I think the opportunity to set the tone for Geelong United is not only a responsibility, but something to for sure be excited about. The group that we’re pulling together is super keen to hit the ground running, and that along with what I’ve heard about the amazing community support in Geelong, I’m just really keen to get there and be a part of it.”
Hannah see’s her signing with Geelong as somewhat of a full circle moment in her career, linking up once again with head coach Chris Lucas for the first time since she trained with the Adelaide Lightning before heading off to college – “He really invested in my career and took an interest in me, watching me come through the ranks and develop and grow as a player,” Hannah said.
Chris has kept a keen eye on Hannah’s continued growth through college, and see’s her as a handy signing for the Geelong United roster – “Hannah, from my point of view ticks a lot of boxes,” Chris said. “She’s had one year as a pro in Germany and I think her numbers have been very consistent. She’s been looking for the opportunity to have a crack at the WNBL, and given the opportunity I think she’ll play a terrific role for us. We only want players in the program that will work hard for both themselves and each other, and she compliments all those values.”
Speaking on what she looks to bring to the side, Hannah’s team first mentality will be a prominent feature – “I really pride myself on being a great teammate, it’s something I learned a lot about in college – Just making sure I’m someone that they know they can lean on and has their back in each moment.”
Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to our WNBL roster, Hannah Hank.
