Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is pleased to announce the next player signing for our inaugural WNBL season, Monique Conti.
The 5 foot 5 guard, and dual sport athlete will join Geelong United’s maiden WNBL side following the upcoming AFLW season, in which she will suit up for her sixth season with the Richmond Tigers.
While Monique’s AFLW accolades speak for themselves (Reigning Women’s Best & Fairest, AFLW premiership player – 2018, AFLW Grand Final best on ground – 2018), she’s also assembled quite the respectable basketball resume since her WNBL debut in 2016, winning a WNBL Championship in 2020, as well as being crowned rookie of the year in 2017.
Last season with the Boomers, Monique averaged 8.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game over 23 games.
Head Coach Chris Lucas, who has guided Monique through previous seasons, is looking forward to once again playing a part in her WNBL journey – “I’m really happy to have Monique join the new Geelong franchise. Her improvement last yer, she really excelled and took on her role within the team,” Chris said. “She’s super fit, she brings a presence on the floor, she can shoot the ball, and defensively she fits everything I want from her.”
As someone who has previously been a part of new beginnings with the AFLW, Monique is ready for the challenge and for what she can offer to her new Geelong home – “I’m really excited for the fresh start in Geelong,” she said. “We’re putting together a great group, so I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.”
Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to our WNBL roster, Monique Conti.
