Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is pleased to announce the next player signing for our inaugural WNBL season, Daniel Raber.
The Israeli National Team representative joins Geelong after a big season in the NBL1 West competition with the Cockburn Cougars, where she averaged 18.74 points, 5.05 assists and 11.05 rebounds per game.
“It feels great to be part of a new team,” Daniel said. “It’ll be my first season in the WNBL – It’s exciting to build something new.”
It’s been quite the journey to get to this point for Daniel. With a long list of accomplishments on her resume already, the WNBL presents a new challenge – “I feel I’ve done everything in Israel – I have championships, I have cups and I needed a new challenge. That was the biggest deciding factor for me to sign on.”
For her new head coach, Chris Lucas, he’s excited to see what Daniel can bring on the big stage – “Daniel is undersized for the position she plays, but she plays bigger than what she is,” Chris said. ”Her passing ability, her screening ability, separation of screens – She does a terrific job, but she’s also a great teammate, and that was really important.”
It was her recent NBL1 West efforts though that really caught Chris’s eye – “She had numerous games where she performed very well on a consistent basis,” he said. “She’s another untried athlete in our league, but I’m looking forward to working with her and getting the best out of her.”
Arriving in the country this week, Daniel is ready to give her all in every opportunity she’s given – “I’m going to bring 100 percent to every game end every training,” she said. “I also want to use my experience to help the younger players on the team and everyone in general to give us all the best chance at success.”
Please join us in welcoming the newest member of our inaugural WNBL roster, Daniel Raber.
