Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is pleased to announce the next player signing for our inaugural WNBL season, Lynetta Kizer.
The 6 foot 4 veteran center brings 12 years of professional experience to the Geelong roster, including 7 years in the WNBA where she suited up for the Tulsa Shock, Phoenix Mercury, Indiana Fever, Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx.
“It’s an honor to be part of the inaugural team in Geelong,” Kizer said. “It’s my first time in the WNBL, so to be a part of a new team, you get a chance to start fresh, get to know the community in Geelong, as well as create some new history for the WNBL.”
As a 2015 WNBA finalist with the Indiana Fever, Kizer is no stranger to big moments, and will look to use that experience to help guide her team forward – “I hope to bring a lot of veteran leadership to the team,” she said. “Coach Chris (Lucas) has talked to me about the way he’d like to play this season. Obviously we want to win and compete at a very high level, and really just establish what Geelong basketball will look like for the future.”
Kizer’s new head coach, Chris Lucas is excited to have such a highly respected player on the roster – “One of the reasons we chose Lynetta was that she comes highly recommended,” Chris said. “She’s very determined. She’s worked extremely hard to get herself in great shape. No athlete lasts in the WNBA for 7 years if they don’t have something special. She’ll bring a wealth of experience to our program, and will be someone I can lean on to to stand up and and be a dominant post player.”
For Kizer, the conversations she’s had with Chris have made her very excited for the season ahead – “The success that he’s had in the WNBL, his knowledge of the game – Your goal as a player is to get better every year, and I believe he’s going to push me and my teammates to do that,” she said. “The most important thing is to continue to grow. Everything is new, so I’m excited to set the standard.”
