Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is pleased to announce the next player signing for our inaugural WNBL season, Taylor Mole.
The 6 foot 2 forward, who already has a previous season of WNBL experience on her resume, will join Geelong United fresh from a stint with Mackay in the NBL1 North competition, where she averaged 22.12 points, 2.76 assists and 7.53 rebounds per game.
“It feels amazing to be joining Geelong United in the club’s first season,” Taylor said. “I’m really excited to get over there, get to work with everyone, meet all the coaches, the staff and all the girls.”
Coming to a new side presents its challenges for any player, but when that side is also brand new to the competition, it can add an extra layer of pressure, but Taylor says she and the team will be ready for the challenge – “The group of girls that we have, I know a number of them from the AIS and other competitions playing both with, and against them. We’ll be a super young team, but also an exciting and competitive group that’ll be ready to go come October 30.”
As for why she decided to take the leap and explore the opportunity here in Geelong, for Taylor, it was all about finding a team and culture that presented the best fit for her – “When I was speaking to Chris (Lucas) in our early chats, he outlined the great vision that he had for the club and how I would fit into that,” she said. “The style of play, I think, is something that I can thrive in and be both challenged in, and succeed in.”
For her new head coach, Chris Lucas, it was Taylor’s NBL1 season that caught his attention – “Taylor’s had a terrific season up north playing for Mackay. She’s a very determined young athlete who had an opportunity last year in the league and deserves another, which I’m sure she’s going to grab with both hands.”
With a big season ahead, Taylor is ready to hit the ground running – “I want to come in and immediately bring really good energy from day 1, but also be a sponge and learn as much as I can,” she said. “We’ll for sure establish the fact that we’re going to be a competitive team, up-tempo with disruptive defense. Geelong United are going to be a team that the community can be really proud of.”
Please join us in welcoming the newest addition to our inaugural WNBL roster, Taylor Mole.
