After four seasons playing with Geelong United’s NBL1 side, Sarah Elsworthy has made the decision to end her time with the club ahead of the upcoming 2025 NBL1 South season.
Across her four seasons, Sarah notched up 79 NBL1 games, averaging 14.4 points, 3.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game from 2021 to 2024 whilst playing a pivotal guiding role as captain during a large period of change for the club.
Sarah was claimed as a local by our Geelong crowds despite growing up in South Australia, and took a lot of pride in representing the region, “Obviously I’m not from here originally, but being part of this community for a number of years now, I’m proud to represent this region and this club,” she said. “It’s all about valuing and playing for the jersey. We get to create that team culture and pride in playing for Geelong United, and represent the region like it should be represented.”
Sarah’s efforts on the court throughout her four NBL1 seasons also earned her the honour of being a part of Geelong United’s inaugural WNBL roster, with the season currently nearing it’s halfway point. Playing a key role off the bench, Geelong crowds will still get to see at least five more games on our home floor enjoying the efforts of the self described “defensive pest”.
The decision by Sarah to move on from the NBL1 Women’s side also comes with the news that Head Coach Jamie Petty will be departing the club after one season in the role.
We wish to thank them both for their time and commitment to the Geelong United NBL1 program.
