The experienced combination of Georgia Varley and Alex Duck has combined for 47 points as Sharks overcame a 14-point quarter time deficit to defeat CC Eagles 58-50 to open the 2023 Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship season.
Varley finished with 27 points and Duck 20, as Sharks outscored the Eagles 56-34 from the first break, including keeping them scoreless in the third period at Geelong Arena.
Alicia Field paced the Eagles scoring to finish 12 points, while Ash Withers finished 11.
Shania Soutar’s 25 points have helped Try Boys overcome Surfcoasters in a thrilling opening round match-up at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium.
Try Boys outscored Surfcoast 23-18 in the final term to start the new season with a victory.
