Women’s Championship Wrap | Round 7

Pivot City has narrowly maintained a share of top spot on the Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship ladder after holding on for a thrilling one-point win over Wildcats at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium, 59-58.

Ella Tofaeono and Eve Braslis combined for 46 points, scoring 25 and 21 points, respectively, as Pivot held off a late surge from the fifth-placed Wildcats.

Star guard Sarah Elsworthy paced Wildcats scoring with 16 points, with young gun Jasmine King (15 points) and the experienced Chantelle Hall (11 points) also prominent.

MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP | ROUND 7

Try Boys registered just its second win of the season with a 50-47 result against Christian College Eagles to stay in touch with the top four at AWA.

Shania Soutar was the standout for the Bears with 20 points, while Kayla Blazko contributed 11.

Making Try Boys’ win even more meritorious was the fact they suited up just five players.

Guard Olivia Cameron did all she could to get the Eagles over the line with 22 points.

The outside shooting of Georgia Varley and Cortney Hollowood proved the difference, as Sharks proved too good for YMCA at Geelong Arena.

Varley knocked down seven three-pointers in her 36 points, while Hollowood landed five from beyond the arc as she racked up 29 points.

Big Kim Hammond was again impressive for Y with 20 points, with Sally Houlihan and Molly Kent both finishing with 11 points.

Surfcoasters had the bye.
