WNBL FAQ

We know you’ve got questions regarding our recent WNBL announcement, so here are the answers you’ve been waiting for.

OUR VISION:
To increase female participation in sport.

OUR WHY:
To establish Geelong as Australia’s leading regional hub for elite female sports.

WHAT IS THE TEAM CALLED?
The name stays the same from VJBL, right through to elite level – We are Geelong United, now starting our own legacy in the WNBL.

WHAT DOES THE LICENSE MEAN?
The license gives us, Geelong United, official entry into the league. It does not mean we carry on the history of the club that held the license before us – The license and the club are two seperate things.

WHERE WILL GEELONG UNITED PLAY?
We will initially play out of the Geelong Arena for the first 3 seasons. Following that, we will look to move to the proposed new arena slated for Waurn Ponds.

WHEN ARE MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE?
More details will be released on memberships in the very near future – We can at this stage confirm that Foundation Memberships will be available this coming June, with Originals Memberships to follow in August.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPONSORS SIGNED?
Expressions of interest are now open for a major sponsor, closing on May 30th. If you wish to find out more, please contact our GM of Partnerships & Marketing, Connie Bolger: cbolger@geelongunitedbasketball.com.au

DO YOU HAVE ANY PLAYERS OR COACHING STAFF SIGNED?
No players or coaching staff have officially been signed at this stage. Under the rules of free agency in the WNBL, Geelong United, as well as the other seven WNBL clubs, can contact players not rostered to a WNBL club last season, however we cannot contact out-of-contract players prior to the Free Agency Period’s June 10 start date.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?
The WNBL 25 season will commence at the beginning of November.

WHERE CAN I WATCH GAMES?
If you can’t make it to a home game in person at the Geelong Arena, or if we’re on the road and you wish to catch the live broadcast of the home and away season, all games can we watched on 9now, ESPN, Kayo and the WNBA app.

WHEN & WHERE CAN I BUY MERCHANDISE?
Merchandise will become available soon via the WNBL website, and can also be purchased at our future game days at the merch stand.

Did we answer all of your questions? If there’s something we’ve missed that you’d like to know, leave us a comment on our official Geelong United WNBL Facebook or Instagram.
