DeMarcus Gatlin is back – Extending his run with the club for season number 9.
Originally joining the team in 2016, the 2019 NBL1 South MVP and multiple time club MVP is ready for another big season, “As a team we’re all looking forward to this upcoming season,” DeMarcus said. “We were able to keep our core and add in a few additions. If we can gel, I think we’ll have a successful season.”
Playing in all 22 regular season games plus a finals outing last season, DeMarcus averaged 13.3 points, 7.13 rebounds, 4.87 assists and 2.04 steals per game. His efforts were rewarded at seasons end, being crowned Defensive Player of the Year at the NBL1 South Awards, as he once again proved to be a high level contributor to the team.
With preseason training in full swing alongside his teammates, DeMarcus says the squad is looking in good shape for the road ahead, “Everyone is looking fit and healthy, and we’re all excited to be playing basketball again.”
But not only is DeMarcus excited to be playing again, he’s also proud to be representing the community that has embraced him as one of their own now for close to 10 years, “The community makes Geelong feel like home away from home. They’ve been really good to me, and I’d like to pay them back with a championship.”
