NBL1 round 2 recap

Round 2 saw our teams take on their first double header of the season. We had some great results from the weekend as our Men are currently sitting outright first on top of the NBL1 South ladder.

HOOPCITY SUPERCATS MEN

Round 2 is in the books for our NBL1 Men as they managed to rout the Ringwood Hawks in our home opener at the Geelong Arena 110-59 in front of a sell out crowd! A 14 point first quarter lead set up an all around dominant game in which every player took the court and hit the scoreboard. Gabe Hadley (Lara) led the way with 27 points including a perfect 9/9 from two point range, while Isaac Turner backed him up with 26 of his own. Debutant Jay Posterino (Try Boys) led the way off the bench with 8 points to go with 1 rebound. Ringwood never looked closed to competing with the length and athleticism of the Supercats as a dominant 39 point last quarter capped off the 51 point win.

Sunday the team headed to Bendigo to take on the Braves in hopes of staying undefeated and secure their spot on top of the NBL1 South ladder. A battle in the first half saw our men going into the break down 46-48. However the Second half showed the defensive dominance holding the Braves to just 25 points for the half. Once again Gabe Handley led the way with 25 points to go with 7 rebounds and was backed up by his backcourt partner Isaac Turner who turned in a 23 point performance including 5 threes.

The offence slowed in the second half with the third quarter ending with the Women extending their lead by just 4. The fourth quarter ended with the ring being covered as the Hawks outscored the Supercats 11-3, but it was not enough as the final buzzer sounded with the Women winning 63-54.
