Challenges keep coming for United

A spot in the top four on the NBL1 South women’s ladder could be the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats if it can extend its winning streak to five against Nunawading.

Sitting with a 2-3 following a loss to Frankston on April 30, Matthew Paton’s roster has been impressive in securing four-consecutive wins, including three straight on the road against Diamond Valley, Hobart and Launceston in the past fortnight.

However, despite sitting ninth, Nunawading has been boosted by the inclusion of star Alice Kunek.

The former Opal returned from a stint overseas last week with a 27-point, 12-rebound effort in a narrow 73-69 win over Casey.

“Nunawading is coming off a strong win last weekend, so we know they will be full of confidence,” Paton said.

“They have significantly strengthened their roster with the recent addition of Alice, so they will be looking to make a charge up the ladder in the back half of the season.

“They boast a very balanced line-up and get offensive production across the board, so we will need to put together a complete game at both ends of the floor to come away with a win on Saturday night.”

Horvat is averaging 19.3 points and 11.3 rebounds since returning from a stint in Poland, while Polish star Skobel has contributed 11 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists through her opening four appearances.
